This is always my favorite time in the Church. I love that no matter how much I mess up (and it's a lot), I know that I can always come to the cross. That may sound cliche, but it's true. We went to Ash Wednesday Mass yesterday, and even my husband made it! The kids were in full form, but we were able to make it through without any major calamities.
K didn't really remember past Ash Wed. (definitely understandable), so she was really baffled when Jesus (that's who she thinks Father is) put a bunch of "gunk", as she called it, on her forehead. The look on her face was priceless. S took it in stride, lecturing K on the penitential elements of the ashes and the importance of not wiping it off. That kid's going to either be a mommy or a class A smarty pants.
My mother's co-worker could have had the same talk with my 4 year old because, apparently, this co-worker forgot to wash hers off yesterday before getting her picture taken to renew her license. She realized it later when she got to work. Seriously! That will be an interesting photo!
All-in-all it was a great day of prayer, thanksgiving, and fasting. The thing I'm giving up this year? Facebook. Yep...it was taking too much time away from prayer and family. The thing I'm introducing...5 rosaries a day. If you need some prayer, call me! Oh wait...don't call me. I guess God thought maybe I was talking/texting too much too because my phone is not working well. LOL
